Varna

Varna is one of the most beautiful seaside resorts in Bulgaria with a favourable climate and shady avenues. In the 6th century BC Varna was known as the Greek city of Odessos. Located on the north-eastern coast of the Black Sea, it is now the third largest city in Bulgaria after Sofia and Plovdiv. Some of the largest summer resorts of the country are to the north of Varna. The city is located on the same latitude as Nice.

Varna is a major cultural, financial and tourist centre with an abundance of cultural events, where important universities and educational centres are located: Varna Free University, The Naval Academy, University of Economics, the Medical University of Varna, the Technical University, and several colleges. The main tourist sites of Varna are the Archaeological Museum, the Naval Museum, the Museum of the History of Medicine, the Museum of Ethnography, the National Revival Museum, Roman Baths. Opera, theatre and ballet companies come to Varna with performances in summer. In Varna one may visit the Dolphinarium, the Aquarium, the Observatory, and take a walk in the Sea garden.

There is an international airport in the city.
